How to pack a lunchbox with hope
Education is a treasure that all Filipinos seek for their children. However, because of poverty, education is slowly becoming just a dream for many Filipino children. In the past three years, there has been a collaborative effort to meet this growing concern. Coming together for the third straight year, Robinsons Supermarket Corporation (RSC) and Unilever Philippines, in partnership with World Vision Philippines, celebrated Lunchbox of Hope last July 5 in Robinsons Metro East. Through the annual project, the organizations aim to help send more underprivileged Filipino children to school.
Along with supporting the education of children comes the need for proper nutrition. To kick-start the event, moms were taught how to prepare healthy and delicious sandwiches. This was followed by a raffle draw where winners got to take their photo with World Vision ambassador Sam Milby. They were able to qualify just by buying Lady’s Choice products during the event.
To express their gratitude to the project’s supporters, Robinsons Supermarket Corporation AVP for Merchandising Food Daisy Lyn Sy, Unilever Philippines Managing Director for Foods Carl Cruz, World Vision Executive Director Elnora Avarientos, and World Vision advocate Sam Milby spoke at the event. To cap the day, Lunchbox of Hope scholars and the audience were serenaded by the heartthrob actor.
Commemorating their third year, Lunchbox of Hope allows consumers to take part in igniting children’s hope for education. For every purchase of a 700ml bottle of Lady’s Choice mayonnaise or sandwich spread from Robinsons Supermarket, consumers can help send underprivileged Filipino children to school with an instant P10 donation. And for every 470ml bottle, an instant P5 will be donated. Together with this, those who purchase get a free limited-edition Lady’s Choice Lunchbox of Hope.
More lunchboxes, more hope
With an advocacy dedicated to the education of children, the project couldn’t be missed by one of the country’s most famous personalities. Even before becoming the face for World Vision and Lunchbox of Hope, Sam was already active in helping kids. “One thing I believe is that people are blessed to bless other people,” he said. The young actor truly appreciates how World Vision Philippines and Lunchbox of Hope provides the opportunity for consumers to help send kids to school. “If we all sponsor even just one child, I think that would make a big difference,” he added.
Now, Lunchbox of Hope is currently helping send 35 children to school, including 11-year-old Aze Choin Ednalaga. “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa kanila kasi po kung hindi dahil sa Lunchbox of Hope, wala pong susuporta sa pag-aaral namin,” he shared.
In cooperation with Robinsons Supermarket Corporation and Unilever, World Vision also plans to let benefactors visit the communities of the sponsored children. “This way, they’ll be able to see and interact with the children they’re helping. They’ll be able to see the impact of what they’re doing,” says Donna De Leon, World Vision OIC Corporate Engagement Publics & Ministry Officer.
Even in tough times, investing in the next generation could be made simpler just by purchasing and packing a Lunchbox of Hope. “Even if people would pay to send about only 35 kids to school. It’s still a good start. Small actions, big difference,” shared Unilever Philippines Managing Director for Foods Carl Cruz.
